The Western Isles Kite Company have been offering powerkite tuition on the isle of Lewis since 2004. That is not the limit of our experience. David has been an instructor of one sort or another for over 15 years, choosing to specialise in kiting after moving to the Outer Hebrides.

We have a great deal of experience in kite sports. They are exciting, fun and offer a sense of freedom that no other sport we have found offers. Relatively cheap and accessible to all ages more and more people are trying power kiting. Whether on the beach, in the water or in a large field all members of the family can be involved.

Training is not essential but is advisable. The power of a kite can be extreme and has potential serious risks and consequence associated with it. As with all sports, the knowledge and experience an instructor can offer will make the learning process faster and safer.

Always get advise from a reputable expert in kiting before purchasing equipment.

The training available is offered by fully qualified Instructors in the area. There are a number of bodies that regulate training in kiting activities they are:

The Power Kite Sports Federation- PKSF

The British Power Kite sports Association -BPKA

The British kite Surfing Association- BKSA

The International Kite Surfing Organisation- IKO

Most courses are available all year.

All instructors are fully qualified and have equipment provided by the Western Isles Kite Company

We can tailor courses for you level. We will also be arranging holidays abroad with training.

Kite Buggy Coaching	Aimed at the novice in kite buggying who have grasped the basics but wish to accelerate their learning.	By the hour	Covers techniques such as power turns, upwind tacking, back wards traveling etc. One to One Coaching to maximise learning time.	£35 ph. one to one
Kite Surfing	Beginner Taster Session An introduction to Kite Surfing. This course is suited to individuals with previous power kiting experience and/or water sports e.g sailing, wakeboarding. Kite Surfing	Beginner Course aims to make you comfortable and safe in the water. A great starting point to ensure a safe learning passage into this exciting sport. This course follows the IKO syllabus.	20hrs.	The course covers the following: Introduction Weather Location Assessment Basic power kite instruction 2 and 4 line kites. Introduction to Kite Surf Kites . How to rig your kite 2 and 4 lines Kite safety systems and self rescue 4/5 line Kites Body Dragging Water Start Basics *Equipment Advice	£350 per person. Max 4 per instructor. This price includes equipment, harnesses, helmets. Wet suits can be hired at £30 per day. Please advise us of your wet suit size when booking to ensure we have your size.
