The Western Isles Kite Company have been offering powerkite tuition on the isle of Lewis since 2004. That is not the limit of our experience. David has been an instructor of one sort or another for over 15 years, choosing to specialise in kiting after moving to the Outer Hebrides.

We have a great deal of experience in kite sports. They are exciting, fun and offer a sense of freedom that no other sport we have found offers. Relatively cheap and accessible to all ages more and more people are trying power kiting. Whether on the beach, in the water or in a large field all members of the family can be involved.

Training is not essential but is advisable. The power of a kite can be extreme and has potential serious risks and consequence associated with it. As with all sports, the knowledge and experience an instructor can offer will make the learning process faster and safer.

Always get advise from a reputable expert in kiting before purchasing equipment.

The training available is offered by fully qualified Instructors in the area. There are a number of bodies that regulate training in kiting activities they are:

The Power Kite Sports Federation- PKSF

The British Power Kite sports Association -BPKA

The British kite Surfing Association- BKSA

The International Kite Surfing Organisation- IKO

Most courses are available all year.

All instructors are fully qualified and have equipment provided by the Western Isles Kite Company

Kite Surfing	Beginner Taster Session An introduction to Kite Surfing. After this course it is recommended that people take the IKO course if continuing in the sport.	Day (min. 4 hours)	Introduction to power kites, body dragging board start	£95 per person max 4
Kite Surfing	Beginner aiming for IKO 1, 2 Course aims to make you comfortable and safe in the water. A great starting point to ensure a safe learning passage into this exciting sport.	3 days or approx 20hrs.	Day One: IKO Level 1 * Introduction Weather Location Assessment Basic power kite instruction 2 and 4 line kites. Introduction to Kite Surf Kites .
